MediaBook is a ubuntu 10.10 based Media Center OS created with Netbooks and other i386 devices in mind. The goal was to create a Gnome 2 distro capable of running a smooth Media Player environment on low resource devices.
Although there are many distros (lubuntu, xubuntu, puppy etc) available that offer adequate functionality at a low cost to resources IMO they fall short of Ubuntu and Gnome's user friendly experience and styling cpapbilities..
Reasons for not using 11.04 or 11.10? Gnome 3 is very nice and has many great features but is just to heavy on system load to be useful on low end pC's and netbooks. :(
MediaBook has been stripped of many unecessary components reducing the load whilst retaining all the functionality of a media machine.
- XBMC and VLC are installed by default
- Rythmbox Audio Player installed by default
- Empathy IM Client installed by default
- eee-applet is included for overclocking the ASUS 701//2g/4g/8g/Surf series of netbooks from the stock 600Mhz to 900Mhz. Asus underclocked the cpu to save the battery. This OS was designed for the 701 4G.***** WARNING: May work for other devices by ASUS but has not been tested.*****
- HTC Clock style conky with weather forecast is included. Minor adjustment required to display your local weather. full instructions included in the help file.
- No office software (Libra/Open Office) is included. This OS is designed for media organisation and playback.
- Still as secure as ever. Nothing has been removed to comprimise security.
- ICONS - Clarity (Viridis) by jcubic (gnome-look.org)
- GTK Theme - Slickness-Black 0.9 by TheRob (gnome-look.org)
- Login Sound - Omen (noisia Remix) by The Prodigy
- The wallpaper is awesome. Cant remember who it was by but cudos to them and if anybody knows who it was made by let me know and ill give credit.
Of course Ubuntu Software Center is included so you can add any software you like from the massive selection available from Ubuntu's repositories.

To make a live DVD just burn with your favorite software making sure that it can create a bootable disk.
To make a bootable USB drive download unetbootin/li li for windows or choose "create a startup disk" from the app menu in any ubuntu based linux live cd or installation. For full instructions on creating a bootable USB device visit www.pendrivelinux.com. However, Your hardware must support booting from USB.
To boot from USB: Enter BIOS configuration at Post screen (usually ESC or a function key such as F2, F10 or F12) & select the connected USB device as the primary boot device.
